These mountains are incredible. Wait until we see them up close!

A frog with umbrella
Sings a capella
Awaiting the thunder and rain
She smiles to the cloud
Eyes blinking out loud
While her daughter munches Romaine

Hi,
Riding across is a blast! But look out for oncoming traffic.

Cheers,
Keith

I cycled the Via Rhona from Orange to Valence in 2018, my first long distance tour. It was a wonderful two days and the Via Rhona remains near the top of my favorite designated river routes. One of my biggest memories is all the bridges, especially the Himalayan foot bridge. As a newbie to loaded touring, I walked almost all of them, unlike my friend Carolyn who rode across every one, even the footbridge!

It definitely feels like we’ve crossed a divide. No more olive groves!

We’re riding the Via Rhona for a couple of days and enjoying it immensely - it’s much more scenic than I’d anticipated. We’re in Valence this evening but tomorrow will head for higher ground, starting with the Vercors. We’ve been resting up in anticipation.

It would be wonderful if we can hook up when we’re in your neighborhood. We’re booked in Beaune on the 18th-19th and Dijon on the 20th-21st, so you could be thinking about what might work best for you.

Hi,
Montelimar is the “official” northernmost point in Provence, at least according to a few Marseillais that I know. From here on there should be less twang to the words and the mistral will fade away. By Valence, you will be “north”. Are you riding up the Via Rhona? It’s really nice, but not at all challenging .
Let me know about your plans as you get nearer to Burgundy. We’ll arrange a meeting as you get closer.

Cheers,
Keith

For the Cycle365 challenge perhaps?

I was stunned when I saw it too. Standing there, you can hardly imagine it would ever rise that high. What a terrifying experience.

I hope you and Al do make it back here. It’s really a lovely part of the world.

Nougat’s the big draw here alright, although neither of us really cares for it. Mom loved it, which makes us feel wistful.

That video is amazing. Thanks for posting the link to it. We loved Vaison-la-Romaine when we stayed there in 2011, and would like to visit the area again. We would certainly take the hike to Crestet that you described. You guys really made the most of your time there.

Montelimar is famous as the home of Nougat. Well, famous with us, anyway. We had a tour of a Nougat factory when we were there a few yeas ago. Yummy.
