Redbud tree! They will bloom here in Ohio in another month or so. By the way, the blooms are edible, and not bad tasting.

This map meeting was in the morning because the previous evening was on a day off. Right now it is hard to leave too early because it is still dark. However, what you say is a good idea.

Lucky indeed! Yesterday, my derailleur got sucked into my spokes & busted its hangar. Good thing I was less than half a mile from home, and have a few backup bikes.

Keep up the perseverance!

Are map meetings usually in the morning? I did several ACA trips decades ago. Map meeting were at night. I usually left camp before everyone else was even awake. I'd make my lunch the night before, and eat cold oatmeal in the morning. That was a taste sensation. The early cyclist beats the heat, wind, and RV's. For the most part, I'm still an early morning rider.

Oh, thank you for your explanation! I thought it was the city itself and not the lengths differences!
I am a native ( 3rd generation) San Franciscan -
My husband is a native of San Diego.

There is no time to grab a water bottle in most cases. One of the riders has a can that makes a noise that dogs don't like and says he rarely has time to get to it. We warn each other when there are dogs, and in that case it might be useful. Usually I am in the vanguard and don't receive those warnings. I think most of the dogs don't want to do anything but bark and chase. I could have been caught a couple of times. One rider saw a dog chasing him get hit by a car. Too bad it is was not the owner (who was hit by the car).

Because it is several hundred more miles and I suspect some big mountain passes further than San Diego. I don't think I have that in me.

Yes. It was on the road when I came upon it, but it scampered away. It was nice to see one alive.

Hard to make out, but that is an armadillo.
