Ha ha, I was calling the whale a juvenile, not you. Chris knows we love him.
5 years agoDo you remember which direction you biked in from? We biked across the border to Port Bou and back today, which was spectacular. I was glad we did it in low season though, because it was busy enough even at this time of year.
5 years agoI was thinking that myself, of course. Charitable or you to not call me a big dummy for my ignorance.
5 years agoI have fond memories of Collioure from 1992. It was a horrible ride on a busy narrow and shoulderless highway to get there then; we compared it to the (pre-Olympics) highway from Vancouver to Whistler. We camped for three nights (I think) at a campground above a beach just north of the town, connected to the town by a seaside walkway. I remember the campground proprietor proudly showing us her American-style top-loader washer and giving us detailed instructions on how to use it, like we would never have seen such a thing before.
5 years agoCetacea hirsutum, juvenile.
5 years agoLove the colorful brige in the video .. and the song that matches the panniet covers. :0)
5 years agoGreat shot of that fuzzy fella! I wonder if Bill can put a name on this rate sighting?
5 years agoAny shot that involves switching from headwinds to tailwinds is a good shot, in my opinion.
5 years agoThat certainly looks like him. I was surprised to see him out this late in the year. That photo of him swallowing the frog is amazing! The frog looks so nonchalant about the situation.
5 years agoThose are some wise and powerful trees!
I wonder how old they are. I always love imagining all the relatively small human events that trees witness as they stand in solid silence.
Not gopher snakes specifically or garter snakes. European snake species are all different from North American species.
This one looks like a grass snake.

My exact words. You’re Clairvoyant!
5 years agoOh, shit!
5 years agoIf bottle of openers could speak, it would have said,
"This is my opportunity to shine! To glow, in fact. To reflect."
... Oh well. Next time.
Hi Scott,
5 years agoBlue skies! Boy am I jealous. Its been raining here for what seems like days, and there is not much sun forecast for the coming week.
Um, Cote de Vermeil is not red. Vermeil is the name we give to an alloy of silver and gold. And you are quite right about the trains not going from France to Spain. The gauge changes in Port Bou, so either the axels have to be changed as they are on the Talgos or you have to get off the train and onto another of the proper gauge. There is a new line from Perpignan to Barcelona that is all French gauge, but that's rather limited to TGV's and some freight.
Cheers,
Keith
