You might give this part of France another try someday then. You can bike a long ways on very safe, mostly separated bike lanes. It’s quite different now than it was 20 years ago, and much more bike friendly. All this ends at Collioure though, and there’s only the coast road as you continue west to Spain.
5 years agoI had to get out my journal! The trip was in September 1992.
We started the day from Port-Bacarès. "In the morning we headed south along flat, reasonably quiet roads. But as we approached the Pyrénées, all roads converged onto the N114. The last 10 km or so into Collioure, along that narrow, windy, and busy highway, were scary. We changed our minds about a day trip to Spain."
EXCELLENT RENDITION, WISH I HAD DEDICATED SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO MY OLE PAINTS...
5 years agoWell, you know we have an unlimited appetite for food photos also.
5 years agoWell, now you have us intrigued.
5 years agoI would have stopped just for the accordion.
5 years agoA Grumby masterpiece! And who was that fetching young lady who whizzed by?
Old Paint is happily resting among the walnut leaves and says don’t count her out just yet.
This video should shock your readers, who have become accustomed to the exceptional photography and content of your journal. Hopefully most will recover without too much trauma.
Thanks for the Porridge shout out!
3,172!!
3,000 miles
100 tour days
And 72 years!
Quite a bit to celebrate, I'd say.
Happy Birthday to you!!
Bienvenidos a España!
5 years agoHi,
Ah, yes , tour guides. Well, what can I say? They are not always reliable, especially about cultural matters. I overheard a young lady telling her tour group that the Pont Neuf in Paris was "the ninth bridge" and another one explaining that "brasserie is a kind of chain restaurant" . I suppose that guide book proof readers can have similar ideas.
Cheers,
Keith
I thought I remembered that about the different gauges from our first pass through, but ran out of time to look it up; so thanks for the clarification. And thanks for explaining the coast name. It’s always puzzled me. Oddly enough, I’ve seen tw9 different tour books that name it the Vermillion Coast, so I assumed they knew what they were talking about.
So sorry about your weather, but delighted for us. Today was incredible - sunny, almost 70F. The forecast is for two weeks of the same, so we may finish off with a wonderful streak.
Happy Birthday. From one old fart to another.
5 years agoHi,
Well, there's me and Greg Garceau who will always look at food. Even when we can't eat it.
Cheers,
Keith
That was the main draw for me also. They had a fine selection of cookies too, but to my surprise Rachael didn’t bite.
