Great idea for a bike tour - - covered bridges! :)
1 year agoI like the route north of Twin Falls, through Ketchum, Stanley, and down the Salmon river to the city of Salmon. Great river, hot springs, cliffs. I pedaled that route once and wouldn't mind doing it again.
2 years agoGreat tour Wayne! Your other tour ideas also look interesting. Don and I are actually transitioning from long self-contained tours to shorter credit card tours like yours. We'll use the trailer to get us to start points, then do loops from that location.
We actually toured from Twin Falls north through an interesting valley and from there crossed into Montana and over to West Yellowstone before going south to the Tetons.
I replaced the rim once before since 2007. I pedaled about 25,000 miles (40,000 km) on that rim and about 50,000 miles (80,000 km) on the hub.

How many miles did you get out of that rim?
Great journal, and a very interesting tour. No reason you can't continue touring until you are 75 - or 80! The touring will keep you young.
2 years agoNice ride, Wayne. Thanks for taking us along.
2 years agoThis was written after the tour finished. The front rim survived the tour with tire pressure at 30 psi and the front brake disconnected.
2 years agoBe careful about that rim and brake situation. Maybe you should get a lift home?
2 years agoOK if your apartment is on the top floor!
2 years agoIndependence Hotel is the only place I've ever stayed that has a bike maintenance room.
2 years agoI did see the giant earth painted sphere. Didn't know it was an industrial tank.
2 years agoI figured the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway can't be too terrible. And yes, when studying the map it did appear that all traffic west of the river is forced to concentrate on one road. The east side offers more back road options, plus a state capitol and several miles of awesome riverfront trails. I wanted to avoid both the hills and the tipsy entitled drivers of the wine country.
2 years agoIt was closed at the time but appeared to be open for business. I should have looked through the window to see if they still operate an old-school soda fountain. It might just be a bakery now.

Very cool - a covered railroad bridge! I've never seen one before.
