Tee hee hee... :)
2 years agoAnd I bet it automatically replenishes the fertilizer, too.
2 years agoWhat a dainty-looking little ferry! But quite nicely kept up. I like the color scheme although it looks more Swedish than Dutch.
2 years agoBeing the Netherlands one expects flowers to be everywhere. Did Beesel extend the theme by perhaps prominently featuring snapdragons?
2 years agoThey just wanted a wider view of the surroundings.
I once saw a clever house on a hilltop with views in all directions. Rather than settling for just one view from any given room the house was built round, on top of a stone pillar that provided entry to the center of the house. The unique aspect was that they somehow acquired and incorporated the turret bearings and motor from an old warship, so that the entire upper part of the house could be rotated to point any room in any direction, at will.
The White Town is a marked contrast to Willemstad, Curacao where the buildings are painted in every color of the rainbow.
The story we were told was that, way back when Curacao was a Dutch possession, the colonial Governor asked everyone to paint their houses anything but white, because the glare from all the whitewashed buildings hurt his eyes and gave him bad headaches.
After he died it was revealed he had a major financial interest in the local paint factory...
There are outfits that will retro-fit tandems with couplers, if you really really want them.
2 years agoBike Friday do an amazing job of designing for that, don't they? Our Doubleday (BF recumbent tandem) takes two suitcases but it works, and has been to Europe with us five times; my New World Tourist has been to Hawaii and now to Oregon. So, they've each fulfilled their primary purpose: enabling relatively painless air travel to and from a cycling vacation.
2 years ago"Time to spare? Go by air."
Any idea why the airport line was so long? Not enough screeners? Not enough scanning machines? Complex procedures?
By contrast, on our flight to Oregon last month (domestic US, which may be part of the difference from European-originating international) we sailed through the security checkpoint with a minimum of fuss and ado, and almost no line. Then again we were traveling at midday on a Wednesday. That may also have been a factor.
Sounds like it was a fun and relaxed tour. Thanks for taking us along!
2 years agoYuk! Faster to take the train?
2 years agoThat’s really impressive!
2 years agoYour ride sounded so interesting. Maybe someday if we can figure out how to fly with our tandem. It isn't coupled like our old one so would be difficult to pack.
2 years agoKeep ‘em coming. Try for one with Robin without horns next time though, OK?

Yeah, Robin always says "Flying is great if you've got the time".
2 years agoThe official word was lack of staff and large passenger volumes. On our flight out of Toulouse, there were no lines at all. So I think this is airport-specific. Schipol is one of the busiest airports in Europe.
