The knee and ankle are doing better. Thank you Rachael for your concern. Also I appreciate you commenting every now and then as it does get a bit lonely on the road. :)
4 years agoI really agree with you about the privatization of the land in the US. We don’t understand how important nature is to our wellbeing. I’ve found Europe and Canada to be much better about it. Hope your knee and ankle are doing better.
4 years agoSo many cool places to see in the US! I never heard of this. Thanks for pointing it out. Your trip sounds amazing already!
4 years agoEasy to do on tour with compressed schedules, etc. Keep up the great work!
4 years agoNot that tough. I dont plan on doing that again for quite some time. My knee is still a little sore. I'll stick with the 50 mile days.
4 years agoThanks Marylynn. Nice meeting you. And thanks to you and Ward for letting me spend the night.
4 years agoI think you are right about that Bill. Lol. I did see large cornfields but that is not a picture of corn. Lol
4 years agoEnjoying your trip from the warmth and comfort of my home. You are doing a wonderful job of riding and writing. Thanks!

Wow! You are tough.

4 years agoThanks Dave! The addition of screws (especially screws for the racks because they are bearing the load) is a great one. I will also probably carry an extra USB cord. Also I had written chain lube but damn auto correct had changed it to chain link, lol. So, that's been fixed. Thanks again for your insight and taking the time to read my great list. :) - David
4 years agoHi David, I suggest carrying a few extra screws of various sizes. They sometimes come loose, fall out and get lost. Also an extra USB cable, sometimes they just get flaky. Chain lube? Safety pins?
Dave
Thank you Bob! I am super excited. The 1997 Schwinn Passage was a chromoly (steel) frame bike with plenty of points of attachment for racks or fenders. So, the bike, while not officially a touring bike seems to lend itself well to touring. Though, a notable downside is the lack of space for wider wheels /tires between the fork and the brakes. I am running 28mm tires and these are the absolute widest this bike will safely accommodate. So, the tradeoff is that I'll go faster on the pavement due to less rolling resistance but will likely have to exercise extreme caution (or walk) over any dirt or gravel. - David

Sad that you didn't get to see Mammoth Cave. The Gouffre de Padirac was, for me, one of the highlights of last year's tour in France.
