Hey Jim, thanks so much for reading. It’s been great, with just enough glitches to make it interesting, the biggest glitch being Dave’s fall, but he seems to be okay after a couple days. The cycling infrastructure here is so superior. We haven’t seen one any other Americans, all Austrian/ German pretty much. We drop into Italy in a few days, and am excited for a change of cuisine! I’m already super tired of my clothes. Am hoping to lose something so I have an excuse for replacing it!
You guys should join us sometime! We have the Trek travel Spain trip in our calendar for 2024 so hope that works out.
Take care,
Say hi to Diana
We are really enjoying the great job you are doing in sharing the good, bad, and ugly. Great pics!
Sounds like you are finding your way and enjoying the ride. Sorry to hear about the bumps. I’m sure the tubs are helping. Thank you for sharing and keep pressing on.
Hi Jill
The problem with the child bride scenario is that that eventually the superman on the front of the tandem runs into a wall of kriptonite and looses strength and some balance. Keep an eye on him!

Quick, lick the front of that thing.
2 years agoWe have been over the Brenner Pass three times - once going south and twice going north. Based on our research we took the train to and from Innsbruck and Brenner to avoid the busy roads. Going south from Brenner its mostly an easy downhill ride on a great bike path to Bolzano. Going north from Bolzano involves some climbing of course but nothing too challenging on regular bikes.
2 years agoNot sure where you are headed next, but after a stop in Salzburg-which is really gorgeous- the AlpeAdria is a wonderful ride which you can follow all the way to the Adriatic. Bits of it are a bit of a challenge, even with ebikes, but for the most part it is a fairly easy and lovely ride.
2 years agoJill and Dave—loving your blog. So informative. Great photos. Mark and I are both reading it with envy. I hope Dave is OK after his fall. And so nice to learn without doing it the hard way about Kamoot etc…Miss you guys!
2 years agoYou ask about those passes. The Alps Adria is absolutely fantastic and well signed all the way to Grado no really difficult parts and lots and lots of interest. Fern Pass too difficult unless you are a mountain biker but you can get a shuttle over the really bad part. The Rosienhein Pass that links the Inn Radweg we found really and it links to the fantastic Adige Valley and its amazing Radweg
If Komoot is giving you a track that looks suitable for goats only change the function to road cycling
Hope Dave is recovering
Keep save

I’m so sorry to hear about Dave’s fall. Hopefully it won’t amount to more than some temporary aches and pains.
2 years agoI’m with you about wanting to periodically have my clothes machine washed. Sorry you didn’t have enough change. I had the same issue but someone at the laundromat gave me enough change so I could use the dryer after washing the clothes.
2 years agoI don’t agree. No dork factor there! Great photo!
2 years agoI look forward to following your tour! I love your philosophy about not needing to impress others and that it’s about enjoying the riding.
2 years agoWhat's it like being a year in the future?
2 years agoI just discovered your journal so am settling in to read and enjoy for the rest of the evening. It looks like a wonderful route you have planned. I am so happy to be living vicariously through you. How wonderful to have the bikes there and not have to worry they wouldn’t arrive. Thank you for the lovely mention. Off to your next entry right now.

Hey Rachel, thanks so much for the reach out and sorry for my tardy reply. We are still sorting out routines and how to work out quiet time for stuff like doing the journal and returning emails. The hard thing is that the best time for us to do it is
2 years agoin the morning when we are fresh, which of course runs against getting an early start. (We are in Spittal an der Drau today with only a 40 k ride to Villach so we are a little more relaxed.) Dave is doing better after his fall, which is a relief. I will reach out to Scott separately but his recent entry about the lost wallet and the tooth was hilarious; we go through that everyday (the lost stuff, not the tooth!) and every time we leave anywhere this is our conversation: do you have your phone, wallet, hat, keys, tablet. Invariably we lose stuff but we are just hoping it’s not too serious. Yesterday it was a converter. That is survivable.
Anyway, take care, JILL
