As you suspected, I didn't carry the solar panel after I stopped camping. Of course I quit carrying MANY things when I quit camping. I still miss the flexibility that camping allowed.
7 months agoThe 7 watt GoalZero Nomad 7 solar panel sounds like it worked very well for you. Are you still using this? Or do you have an updated version/device? Since you now stay in motels, etc. you probably don't have need for one?
7 months agoYes, I've heard about the Crater Lake Rim and the annual bike event ride that happens there. Pretty neat! I'd probably need an e-bike to ride that kind of elevation!
7 months agoDunes migrate in the east as well. Surely you've heard that Cape Hatteras lighthouse (nation's tallest lighthouse) had to be moved because the Outer Banks are migrating west. A little north of there, a gap between islands called Oregon Inlet has moved 2 miles north since it was created by a storm.
7 months agoThe Crater Lake Rim Drive is 33 miles, with about 4000 feet of climbing. Elevation ranges from 6450 feet to 7700 feet. Two weekends in September the eastern 3/4 of the rim drive is closed to motorists for an event called "Ride the Rim", with several aid stations along the route.
7 months agoThese trees are Coast Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens). The Giant Sequoias are farther south at higher elevation in the southern Sierra Nevada. Giant Sequoias have even fatter trunks than these Redwoods.
7 months agoI always like hearing the seals barking. :)
7 months agoI didn't know there was a tsunami in Crescent City in 2011 - - just 2 years after I biked through there - glad I wasn't there when it happened!
7 months agoI love the huge Sequoias!
7 months agoCool picture of the old cop car! :)
7 months agoWow, Crater Lake is a beautiful lake! :) I hear it's very hilly to ride around though...
7 months agoNeat you met another bike tourist on a Bike Friday. :) I have a Bike Friday that I bought in 2005 and have bicycled all over with it - it's my favorite bike. :)
7 months agoNice stain glass windows in the Craftsman-style house. :)
7 months agoI didn't know that hazelnuts are the leading nut crop in Oregon and Washington - I like hazelnuts. :)

Yes, I appreciate having camping stuff - JUST IN CASE indoor accommodations are not available. :)
