I've already got a dozen!... in another 11 months there won't be a problem making a 'windows' calendar. I'm also working on 'walls'.

Same to you! No IPA, but “ Renowned for its golden color, full-bodied flavor and malty, moreish taste with smooth, tight creamy head” sounds quite nice.

These 19 cases are all people in quarantine after arriving from overseas, so it's not too bad considering how prevalent the virus is around the world. There hasn't been any local cases for a while, but I do worry about Chinese New Year, when lots of Taiwanese will fly back... maybe some people won't obey the quarantine rules.

It's hard to believe you were spared! That song has been covered a lot, but when I searched YouTube, I found the version I know - the big hit- is not the actual orig.

The video of the song's writer Lally Stott singing it is a real gem of naffness...

The whiskey was nice. Merry Christmas, Greg!

I'm old enough, so I don't know why I couldn't remember "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep." So I looked it up on Youtube to see if the tune would jog my memory. NOPE! Which is strange because sometimes I will spontaneously break into song with cheesey old tunes like that, much to the delight (or irritation) of my family. Now I'll have to add the horrible "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" to my repertoire.

Happy holidays, and enjoy your Christmas Scotch.

Hopefully so... the UK next year.

That sounds a bit too stark, but not by much. Probably more true than not. What I do think I can taste is likely a mind game, other than what the tongue picks up. A subject with plenty to elaborate on. We should discuss it over a pint some day and you can tell me what you taste.

Wow... does that all beer tastes the same - of nothing?

Hi, Eva

My Chinese is abysmal, considering I've been here so long.

When I first arrived, I thought it wouldn't be too hard to learn, but the tones made it very frustrating and I simply gave up. My wife helps with all the official stuff and at work I certainly don't need it. Out on the street it would obviously be useful, but I get by. Most young people know some English.

I like your vignettes, and was interested to read that you've lived in Taiwan for 22 years. Do you speak Chinese, or can you get along reasonably well in English?
