I have been reading your blogs for years, but have rarely commented. This was a moving and beautiful tribute to your friend and made me feel the impact of his loss. Thank you for posting this.
5 years agoThanks Tricia. We are also very happy to see that Bernie's younger sister, and the rest of his family have appreciated the blog.
5 years agoThat was a touching blog you wrote The people that support on our way are wonderful as are the ones like you that support us on these sites
5 years agoI was glad to be able to write Bernie's sister tonight, and report over 1300 views and many "likes".
5 years agoNice tribute to your friend. Thanks for putting it out here.
5 years agoYes, hosting (or being the guest) is worth it. It is "costly" though, because you may want to invest in keeping up contact with people for years.
5 years agoI had read about this issue with the Ortlieb bag, but I have somehow repositioned my bag 3 times since the initial installation. I wouldn't fully trust the cable on a long tour, but it's lasted over a year puttering around on day rides.
5 years agoWe are looking forward to returning to Oregon next year and hope to become WS hosts for the reasons you spelled out.
5 years agoI did a backpack up to a place called Skoki Lodge many years ago. Seems like it was near Lake Louise.
5 years agoThanks or reading, Keith and Kathleen. We will be able to tell Bernie's family that a lot of people followed this story.
5 years agoSteve and Dodie - A beautiful tribute to your friend Bernie...thanks for sharing!
5 years agoVery nice. He passed away pretty young. I look forward to reading more.
5 years agoThanks Gregory. You are right about Bernie and the memories. Of course on a lighter note, this has afforded a chance to recycle pieces of four otherwise forgotten historical blogs!
5 years agoHi Steve,
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I can see that the remembrances of Bernie are bringing out a flood of other memories. I can relate to that. This is a very nice tribute.
Thanks Jeanna and Kerry. We were not sure that this would make a good blog, and benefited from the open minded approach of Jeff Arnim, who started this site. Jeff said, sure, give it a try. We are gratified by all the positive comments that have since been received. Most importantly, the blog has been meaningful to Bernie's family, and we hope to continue our Travels with Bernie by returning to them and to the Bodensee on our bikes as soon as we can.
