1 year agoThe water looks a bit foamy. Perhaps they should look at their stocking rates . . .

1 year agoI think I share your pessimism Wal. Every day I'm watching more and more people driving bigger and bigger vehicles and the supermarkets supplying more and more plastic packaging in a society that really should know better. Perhaps in a society that has lower levels of education and isn't as well off and comfortable as Australia, environmental damage can be somewhat excused but, like you, I feel the damage homosapien is doing to the planet is terminal.
1 year agoGraham, we could suggest it. It's wicked fuel for cycling. I almost hit 80 on the descent; must have been this stuff.
1 year agoYum! You don’t get that on the menu at Hall General Store.
1 year agoFlorence, good idea! But there were too many choices and so I chose nothing.

1 year agoFound it. I’ve emailed you the details.
Colleagues in the ag faculty at Gadja Mada Uni (GMU) led us to many amazing places in the Yogya region.
eg a bamboo research & production facility; a chilli plant grafting research project; tea and cocoa plantations / factories owned by GMU for research and production.
The highlight was Mt Merapi and a tour of the disaster recovery worksites coordinated with various faculties of GMU.
After the most recent eruption, approximately 200,000 people were temporarily absorbed into Yogya from the Mt Merapi region.
Graham, that's terrific. I need stuff like that. Ian
1 year agoIan few years ago, with one of our work groups, we were taken to a remarkable restaurant near Yogya where every item on the extensive menu was fungi.
Even the restaurant decor was living fungi. It was an edible adventure through the immense variety of colours, textures and flavours that surprised even the most dedicated meat eaters.
I’ll try to find out where it is and forward you the name & address.
Graham, I'm going to try the south coast of Java after Yogya. One thing is that I'm moving fast on the main road. When it's flat, like around here, I'm easily doing 25+. Of course, the traffic squalls stop me. Ian

Good durians then. The completely scentless ones in the supermarkets here must be like the peaches they try to sell me. No flavour at all !
