Thanks Ian. It’s even more impressive than I remembered it. It was in 2014 I saw it.

Ian I used to think that the occurrences were either unique or not. Your Venn diagram has convinced me there are degrees of uniqueness in the world of cycle touring.

My dad was an artist... teacher actually, but highly talented. I grew up leafing through his college art books and seeing works of the old masters.

If you can access facebook, here is a newspaper clipping of him that I got after he and mom died. Both he and his siblings are all long gone.

Rather Van Gogh-esque.

Take it easy Ian.
Life’s not meant to be wheezy.

Sone of the most ‘memorable’ bronchial infections I’ve had were caught in Indonesia.

Somewhere in the Affendi compound there’s an amazing Javanese wagon. Looked like an ideal isolation ward to me.

Great comments, Graham. Unfortunately, my infection has headed down overnight so I'm none too good. I'll Pedal out to Affandi and hide while my bike is painted

My bet is that very few, if any, cycle tourers have paused mid-tour for portrait sitting by an accomplished artist.
It’s up there with rescuing snakes as a unique cycle touring incident.

Excellent tonic for upper respiratory ailments. Especially if there’s galangal in the mix.

John, enjoyed all of your comments here. Yes, the place is exceptional. There seem few tourists but those who go seem interesting.

This sculpture, by Kartika, is a copy of her father's mural "Wisdom of the east" that she helped him with. It is the hand of God, holding the wisemen of the east, reaching across the ocean to the west. Isn't that brilliant!

Yes, isn't there. I see something new every time I walk past.

Given the bottle of VAKSIN on the archer's back, I'd say you're right Ian
