Oh, well that’s a good point. I didn’t look at it that closely and was thinking it was a paper wasp nest. It must be a bird of some kind.

I agree. Walking a route I often cycle, I found a heron rookery. I'd heard there was one in the area, but never saw it until I walked past and then I wondered how I could have missed it. Narrow road uphill is my excuse.

I find it interesting that it just says "Bank". Old bank buildings in small-town BC generally say "Bank of Montreal" or whatever rather than the generic "Bank".

I'd guess some kind of bird since I can't see insects moving dead leaves into position.

I certainly wondered if I was tempting fate but I did zoom in on the satellite view to see if there were any houses close to the road that might have dogs. I also bought some pepper spray that I kept handy.

Love that video! Have you seen the similar one with the Colorado Symphony:

I like that you both can go with the flow. If a dog changes your plans you adapt. There are always interesting things everywhere you look and you two are great examples of people who know this. Thank you for today's lesson - distinguishing between hairy and downy and showing us exactly where the confluence is.

Deer ticks are the ones that carry Lyme Disease and they are nearly invisible. The nymphs carry the disease as well and they are basically invisible to the naked eye. Avoid grasses and rock falls/scree. Mice live in the rocks and they carry the deer ticks as well. People think Lyme isn't a big deal in Oregon but it definitely is.

Oh, thank you for that. It wasn’t in my consciousness at all. In general we should be fine, because most of our ‘hikes’ are just walks on county roads; but we do stray off the path on occasion.

Please check for ticks after each hike. This is prime tick season and you are in prime tick country.

Call me a Rocky fan, but I think it's a testament to her intrepid spirit that she walked up and down something named "Dog Creek Road" only a few days after getting attacked by one of the local dogs.

Yup. And others that are owned by gun-toting misanthropes. Maybe it was the recent dog attack but we weren’t inclined to test our luck.

Oh that's right- no logs! There are some roads that are "owned" by timber companies between Portland and the coast that are posted by allow bicycles.
