We biked this in the other direction and had as much trouble finding our way through as you did. We were stranded on the side of that controlled access highway trying to figure out what to do when we were rescued by a biker out on his day ride who changed his plan for the day and gave us an escort for the ten miles into Granada: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/andalucia2004/granada/. We would never have figured this out on our own.

2 years agoYes, I remember this day well. It looks like you exactly reversed our route from Priego to Montefrio, 17 years ago. Six weeks earlier in the year, and way too hot. We couldn’t do this ride in one day now,I don’t think.
2 years agoI suspect that you built the route first in the other direction and then reversed it. That’s the classic symptom - a mess of wrong-way rides down one way streets. Happened to me just a week ago in Viterbo.
3 years agoSuch a beautiful spot. But yes, there’s some pain involved.

Quite a picture. I'm trying to figure out what the fortress atop those craggy rocks is all about. (And, before I forget, good job on scoring that free second tapas plate.)
3 years agoWell deserved after all that climbing.
3 years agoI wonder what the story behind those banners might be? Violencia NO.
3 years agoI was told that those trees are good at sucking the water out of the ground. Here in France you often see them planted in neat rows in low-lying areas along rivers.
3 years agoMontefrio! I don’t know of anyone else who’s cycled to that remarkable place. Can’t wait until you get decent WiFi and can upload some pics.
3 years agoThe Alhambra is one of my favorite places anywhere along with Monreale Cathedral in Sicily. You should keep Sicily in mind for a future trip in the Spring. The flowers are amazing.
3 years agoWhat a beautiful time to be there.
