And Happy 60...you'll love this decade!
Rachel
Ha! yes even though in 1992 I paid $1200! Has been well worth the investment for sure.
Not sure I'd feel safe on another bike ;)
We do get attached don't we.

Rachel,
Have you heard the $1. Per mile rule? Once you have ridden a mile for every dollar
Your bike costs, it is paid for and you can get a new one! I think your bike is long paid for. Jacinto had a good old Surly that he is down to pennies the mile. He still loves that bike and rides it often. Old
Favorites are so nice.

You should be able to click anywhere on the elevation profile and then see a corresponding dot on the map. It should slide along, so you can follow the actual routing. I can’t get it to slide on my phone. ???
We are doing the south East leg first to Taos, then back on the western part.
Hi Jacinto,
My bike is a Davidson built in Seattle, bought in 1992 and still using on all tours

Hi Kelly,
Which direction are you going on this map?
Hey, I've been reading about your rides! 50 miles and 3,500 feet of climbing - that fits right in with Colorado. You are in shape and ready to join us!
It has been a long spring this year. After my great Tucson start, riding has been sporadic at home, due to bad weather. The first segment of our trip, from Rifle to Gunnison, has gentle mileage days. The longest day is 44 miles. I hope that saves me.
You are super tough! I’m tired just looking at your itinerary. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
2 years agoI am interested in trying it, just because it has a different style of handlebar that has a storage bag. Convenient, but not necessary. Jacinto is wary of me using it, because I have such a poor track record with new bikes. I have an appointment to take it in for an appropriately geared triple crankset. Then I can ride it around home, and make my decision. I now have my favorite seat on it. Going down the road, it feels just like my other bikes. I haven't taken it on a big downhill yet. Long answer to what should be an easy question!
2 years agoNot that you need to, but will you be using your new coupled bike this summer?
2 years ago*I* am leaving the option open - it's 5,1xx feet of climbing. Unfortunately, this is the steep side, with areas of grades above 10%. We changed the route to overnight as close as possible to Payson Canyon. This shortened the miles, making the emphasis on the climbing. The alternate is a 27 mile flat ride. I reserve the right to go around. Jacinto will be climbing. No surprises there!
Benjamin Meyerson has been helpful with routing. He said Payson Canyon was worth riding, even though they've had a forest fire in recent years. It's worth noting that he also enjoys climbing.
I need to update this map. We are going to take one of the dirt roads, either the Lake City Cut Off or the Blue Mesa Road. The decision is which one might be better condition. I think as we get closer, I will call the cabins and ask their opinion.
2 years agoThe combination of the two routes covers an amazingly wide terrain. From east of the Rockies, edge of the Great Plains. To west of the Wasatch range, edge of the Great Basin. Good luck!
You really plan to do the 4000 foot climb between Nephi and Payson???
Holy moley, you made it to the half way point. You are a tough gal. I just know you'll make it back.
