I wonder if it might be better to remove the seat post completely. Less chance of, um, hurting oneself, and would probably make it easier to sit back on the rack when necessary.
2 years agoNice shot of the iris!
Top right is some species of vetch, as is the second. Hard to tell the exact species when there are so many that look almost alike.

Bottom right is tufted evening primrose.

I'm sorry I got you into the 42 mile minimum. I'm certainly not following it when I have a loaded bike and especially with the kind of climbing you are doing! Your alot tougher than I am.
2 years agoEntirely too true!
2 years agoHe had to use the habanero powder to sterilize that "perfectly seasoned four day old" (and not refrigerated, I'm sure) burrito
2 years agoI do have a friend who travels with his own pillow. At 86, his neck is very particular. We did a Tucson area tour together a couple years ago, self contained. Spoon's pillow made the whole trip!
These were actually pretty nice for only $4. although I'm sure they wouldn't have held up over time.
Why don't we consider dandelions to be a desired flower? They do look nice here. In Carbondale, they have a big festival around people bringing their own weed pullers to the local park and everyone weeds dandelions at the same time, with music and food. There's booths, etc. It must work - I don't remember many dandelions around there.
2 years agoIt's a busy little tourist place. At least this early in the season, the locals don't seem to jaded. I ran into a couple in Tucson riding a half recumbent tandem who spent half of their year in Tucson, the other half in Crested Butte.
2 years agoI was looking at our total mileage for eight days of riding, thinking I must have forgotten to fill some in. Nope, 281 miles. I’m not making that 42 mile a day minimum! 😉
Seriously, it was smart to start off easy. None of us are young anymore. Both the altitude and the climbing are an adjustment.
Nope. I’ve never been up there but it’s always been a temptation when looking at the map.
