I'm late to the party but congratulations on getting this one in. Well done!
2 years agoWhat a great tour and congrats on finishing strong (despite your little incident!). Where are you going next time??
2 years agoI have a two day streak since returning home of being up at 6 and going for an hour walk. So far, my foot doesn't hurt. I'm following that walk up with a body pleasing bike ride. Ten miles is the minimum, I have found.
2 years agoYeah, I wish! We're just happy that gas has dropped to below $5.00 per gallon.
2 years agoLove your new buddy!
2 years agoWhat a beautiful picture! I agree with you on getting up before dawn and on the road as the sun is rising to avoid heat later. Even now, I'm an early riser and have seen many pretty sunrises while on our trip.
2 years agoFantastic journal and a fantastic trip! I loved it!!

2 years agoThank you for the compliment - I think Oren is the real age defying person - he is 75! I hope I can still do a fraction of the difficulty when I turn 75.
2 years agoI really enjoyed following your 60th birthday tour in the mountain states. You defy your age.

Ben,
2 years agoIt is a month later, but I thought I'd come back and tell the rest of the story. I took the bike to Troy/LBS. He agreed with your assessment that it is the hub. He further said that they don't usually service hubs, even on the 'big' tune up. I'm not so happy about that one. Troy said if he gives the wheel a spin, and the hub feels bad, then he recommends taking it apart. That's an extra $45.
He pulled the axel out of the hub, cleaned and lubed it, said it doesn't look pitted. I've ridden four consecutive days on the bike since then, and it's been fine. I'm still getting some groaning when I apply pressure after a stop or coasting. Everything works properly though. I'm some concerned about the creak/groan. It's a good thing that I don't have a tour coming up!
So - that's my update - I could have gone with a wheel swap instead of a bike swap, had I been more knowledgeable about bike mechanics.
