Not a routing suggestion - but we will be arriving in St. Mary, MT on June 13th. The 14th will be the last day for a car free ride up Logan Pass/Going to the Sun Road. We are hoping the road will be plowed to the top.

For some reason, my entire comment didn't post. This is what it said in its entirety:

"No way I could do that right now, given my degraded fitness level." As I've commented before, I think your definition of "degraded fitness level" and mine dramatically differ. :-)

I've been in contact with John, AKA the Route Master, already. I'll probably try to ride in Wyoming on this tour, where he lives, and of course knows literally every road.

But I thought someone in California or Nevada might have some local suggestions.

Hmm. I hadn't noticed that. Your attention to detail is very impressive.

I'm going to vote for Yarmulke, simply because the idea of a Jewish person relocating to the small rural town of Benton, Illinois 100 years ago to open a combination drycleaner/furrier shop amuses me for no good reason.

Maybe John Egan might have some suggestions?

Do you think the guy in the picture is balding, wearing a yamaka, or just a victim of peeling paint?

It's true though - I almost certainly could not ride the Fargo 100 miles right now with 40 lbs. of stuff on the bike.

Not to brag, but as recently as 2019 I did a fully loaded tour on the same bike, 3,200+ miles, and averaged almost 90 miles a day. Compared to that, I'm very out of shape.

I hope I can get back to that level... Despite my advanced years ;)

Thanks Jeff. I don't even remember the circumstances of taking this, other than that I must have ridden out of Hardinsburg pretty early.

I hope you're doing well. When's your next big tour? I loved following your last one.

I have a very faint memory that this old country store might have been open, despite its decrepit appearance. So the children might have been inside.

It's actually the Public Works building, not a school. So yes, I guess it actually IS difficult to read ;)

A cool sign, nevertheless.

Is that a twin stroller in front of your bike? Where are the kids?

Well, it is a cycle, propelled by your motor!

This is so unique! Difficult to read, but clever use of old street signs, especially to “teach” those at the school 1) location, 2) spelling, and 3) art!
