Thanks, John. The NyQuil worked, and I slept through the night. Finally.
I have an AirBnB reserved in Goldfield, and extra water on the bike.
Now I just need my climbing legs ;)
You gonna be O.K.?
You have a lot of nothing between Lone Pine and Goldfield.
Just the college a mile off Hwy 168.
And Goldfield is pretty abandoned, but has the bare minimum.
You will have plenty of empty, however.
And I know you like that.
I will talk to the management about your cold symptoms.
Hope you are better tomorrow.
I don't know what that billboard is about, but I thought it was memorably off-putting.
7 months agoGeez, Jeff! You are a beast! Having a cold would have been only one of 17 reasons why I couldn’t drag my butt and my bike up some of those hills/mountains! It will be easy to follow you now that I found your blog! Be safe and have fun, in that order…
7 months agoNo. Ugh. Really?
7 months agoChapeau! What a great ride.
7 months agoPics are lovely, too.
But hey, that's a nice road.
(By my standards)
Yeah, US 395 is pretty busy.
Further north, it's only two lanes with sketchy shoulders.
My friend, Chris, absolutely hated it.
Even though the views are magnificent.
Hey, did you check with Deep Springs College
to see if they were open and you could get water?
If not, maybe it would be better to use US 6 via Bishop.
'Cause Hwy 168 is super remote with lots climbing.
Hope the cough is 99.9% gone.
Wow, wow, wow!
I love your idea about writing first.
Who needs pictures when you paint it in words?
Is this just some random thing in the middle of nowhere??
Maybe owned by the Zoolander employees. :-)

7 months agoHi John,
I'm on US 395 right now, taking a break at the truck stop at Coso Junction.
I didn't have to push the bike going up Sherman Pass Road, but I had to stop and lie down several times.
Still have the cold, but it mostly only bothers me at night.
I've seen a few signs like that! Most recently when driving home from Tucson on Navajo Nation. It's amazing how difficult it is to drive through 6" of slush. I was happy when I reached a plowed road.
7 months agoHope you are feeling better today, Jeff.
The Kern River section is nice riding,
but OMG, you did some steep climbing.
Nearly all of the smaller Sierra roads are like that.
Did you do any pushing - - I certainly have.
Enjoy Kennedy Meadows.
Hi Morri,
7 months agoSorry for my late reply.
Thanks so much for all your help. It made starting my trip much easier. Next time you are back in Kentucky/Ohio with your bike, let's get together and ride
