John Egan commented on Day Eight: Big Pine, California to Goldfield, Nevada

I lied. It's only 65 miles to Blue Jay.
Then 100+ to Ely. But 100 miles for you -
is a pleasure outing.

PPS -
Coming into Warm Springs from the west,
there is a whale of a downhill.
Perfect gradient, straight, high-speed.

Jeff - Are you up for two 84-ish mile days to get to Ely?
The place to stop is Blue Jay - not Warm Springs.
Blue Jay has a tiny rest area with one tree and picnic tables.
BUT there is also a Nevada DOT work station right there.
Chris and I got water there. And tomorrow is Monday -
so if the crew went back "home" for the weekend,
they should be back from Ely and at Blue Jay.

PS - We never like our own pix. I think it's fun.

Heh, I didn't mean to make this page public yet. I don't think that's a good pic of me.

Did you see my comment to you asking if I can filter the water (for drinking) at Warm Springs?

What a handsome devil!
A bit geeky, but handsome nonetheless.
Can't wait for the full photo spread.

Jeff Lee replied to a comment by John Egan on Day Seven: Lone Pine, California to Big Pine, California

Hey John,

Yes, I took a short day to Tonopah today to rest after yesterday and plan the next few days. What I'm thinking is to get on US 6 and ride tomorrow to Warm Springs and camp there, near that closed springs place.

Question: Is there water I can filter there to drink?

Next day, ride 102 miles to a truck stop/motel in Preston. Ely is too far for me to do from Warm Springs.

The CLOWN Motel?? How can anyone NOT stay at a place named the Clown Motel? I think it might beat elegant, at least for one night. :-)

Are you going to do a short day tomorrow?
Just to Tonopah?

You don't have to stay at the Clown Motel - -
although I did once and it turned out okay.
No ghosts or chainsaw murderers.

However, the Mizpah Hotel is truly elegant.
And they have a hostel-like annex behind it.
I love Tonopah. Worth a look.

You have to be the most extreme cyclist I have ever known.
How many miles? How much elevation? How empty?
A million congrats.

I love shots like these. Whether I see them in person or in a post I want to spend some time looking at every single item.

The perfect sign for this tour. Maybe you should make this the one you use for your thumbnail.

Hi Morri,

Sorry for my late reply.

Thanks so much for all your help. It made starting my trip much easier. Next time you are back in Kentucky/Ohio with your bike, let's get together and ride

Jeff

Thanks, John. The NyQuil worked, and I slept through the night. Finally.

I have an AirBnB reserved in Goldfield, and extra water on the bike.

Now I just need my climbing legs ;)
