This looks like a sign you would see on the big island!

I was chatting with one of the bank tellers. It came up that they lived in Ely for a number of years. Her husband worked at the mine. She said they liked it there, but moved when the kids got old enough to ask about the brothel buildings. She said there were more brothels in Ely than churches. This conversation was decades ago. Perhaps there are now more churches, although I did just ask google about brothels in Ely, and there are a few listed.

I think maybe the stinkers are never happy... A guy in my mammalogy class back in the late 60s tried to capture one by throwing his leather jacket over it... Shredded. They are solitary and interact with others very sparingly.

I walked around Ely looking for the theater, but then it started to pour down rain, and I had to hurry back to my room.

Ely seemed like a lively place.

I think there was a dirt road leading off to somewhere or other.

Yeah, I was fortunate those people helped me.

I have to say, that section of US-6 was tough. Like literally twice as hard as that 84 mile day between Milford and Baker on the Western Express. That was my previous benchmark for hard paved road touring.

Jeff Lee replied to a comment by George (Buddy) Hall on Day Twelve: Preston, Nevada to Ely, Nevada

Hey George. I did the ride when I did the Western Express east to west in 2013.

Today I did it in the opposite direction, although I went all the way to the border, not Baker.

The ride seemed easier today than in 2013, for some reason. Maybe the climbing is easier west to east?
