Looks like a gray baboon spider. This tarantula species seems to be prized in the pet trade.

Sometimes they are very "quiet" looking as I almost always wait for cars and truck to go by before I take my picture. But yes, overall, it wasn't all that busy so easy to time my photos without vehicles.

Porridge from ground maize (corn) eaten all over Africa.
Similar to "grits" eaten in parts of the USA.

It's a variety of Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia) which is in fact native to Africa but widely sold even here in Canada.
