Matches well with calthrop. Related to goatheads.

HI Kim
I was so worried about your journey to Ai-Ais but to Windhoek even more! It is a long stretch! You will have to catch a ride. The heat is too much! Glad you found our "letter" next to the road! Pity we did not leave water. Have fun, keep safe and I will follow your trip! Enjoy Africa! I hope you meet many more lovely people!

I am back on the main B1 highway tomorrow and likely making a straight shot up to Windhoek. I am toying with renting a car or at a minimum, getting a shuttle out to Walvis Bay/Swakopmund so I don't have to bike both ways. Definitely going to Etosha National Park, just not sure how I'm getting there yet. :)

That is Datura, a north/south American plant invasive in Namibia.

We admire you for cycling Namibia. We rented a vehicle for ten days to see the sights ourselves. Keep it up, but don't feel bad for doing some hitchhiking to see the sights you would otherwise miss.

A solfugid. Not dangerous, but can bite hard if provoked.

Thanks so much! I looked at your profile. We were neighbors. I was born and raised and lived most of my life in the Seattle area. Thanks for following along! Happy cycling!

Hi, great meeting you guys as well. I'm pretty sure I found your "markings" in the desert. (See picture.) I was quite impressed as I was dying of heat exhaustion at the time. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Kim Johnson replied to a comment by Kathleen Jones on Springbok to Vioosldrif - longest mileage day in a VERY long time!

Thanks so much Kathleen. The vastness of the Namibia landscapes is amazing. It’s much too hot to take as many pictures as I would like, plus the flies swarm like crazy when I stop. It has rained a lot here so I guess parts of it are greener than ever before. Thanks for following along. Headed to Fish River Canyon tomorrow and that should be incredible.

Thanks so much Rich for your nice words. I’m not sure if I would have been brave enough to actually follow through with my July plans solo. Based on how things went, I’m forced to be brave at this point. Or a scaredy cat, but push through the fears and hope for the best. It’s definitely way out of my comfort zone, but so far so good and I’m really enjoying my rest days. 😉 Thanks for following along.
