Thanks! I’ve never heard of this plant that I can recall, but it sounds like it mostly grows in the south. Did you see it in Tyler when you lived down there?
4 years agoHi, Ann. First off, thanks for following along! It’s nice to hear from you. And Bosnia! I hope you blog this tour. We just dipped a small toe into Bosnia on a day ride from Dubrovnik last year, and it was enough to intrigue us.
We can’t recommend the Premium version of RideWithGPS, because we’ve never used it! We only have a basic subscription, and haven’t even had that until fairly recently. For several years we just used the free version, until Rachael decided we needed offline maps.
We’re not very good references on this though, because we aren’t very sophisticated users and don’t use many features. Until recently we pretty much just used it for drawing routes that we downloaded to our Garmins, so we don’t really use its navigation features at all.
They’re pretty serious dips, alright. They get your attention in a car too.
4 years agoYikes! Not my favorite type of riding. Rollers!
4 years agoSaw no shrimp, but didn’t go looking for them either. We were more taken by the salt formations and the faux-mirage.
I’m sure it must be a much different place now, but it’s still pretty easy to get lost and alone. If you get just a bit away from the big attractions, you have the world to yourself.
Now that’s funny! Laughed out loud.
4 years agoIt’s a one of a kind destination, for sure. It’s pretty austere, but it must have the best winter cycling opportunity in the country.
4 years agoBack in the mid to late 50s there was no path... or picnic bench... or parking lot. Just a wide spot, and we poked around the crunchy and wet salt, so rough you would not want to walk on it.
Did you see brine shrimp and brine flies?
Looks to be a Trumpet vine.

4 years agoHello Team Anderson,
Steve & Ann here with a question about Ride with GPS. We have followed your adventures over the past years and have been inspired by the descriptions, photos and maps that make your trips come alive. Having just turned 60, we are now planning our first big tour - Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia over 3 months- and so will be needing a more elaborate mapping system to set up, find and follow routes. I see you use Ride with GPS. Do you recommend the Premium version? Any suggestions on using the App would be most appreciated. You can email me at Stevenweary1@gmail.com
Thanks
You guys are awesome! 46 miles and 4100 feet awesome.
4 years agoSensational! How I would love to cycle in Death Valley!
4 years agoShould have known to scroll down and see that, of course, you already knew the answer! Got me!

I'm sure there were some growing, but probably didn't take notice back then. From what I read, there are quite a variety of them, but seem to thrive in the Southern costal climates.
