Sorry to hear that floods have forced such a significant detour. Your ride is turning from an adventure into an epic.
Hopefully the traffic on your backtrack route isn’t also being increased by the road closures. I guess motor vehicles … especially trucks… would be detouring elsewhere if they had advanced notice.
Thanks Bill. My son is a botanist and I have had to take pictures (and collect live specimans) of plants for him on a number of occasions for herbarium records so he has told me what to look out for. BTW, he contributes enthusiastically to iNaturalist. If you look up Luc Strydom you'll find his profile.
7 months agoBy the way, that is a perfect ID shot showing leaves, stems, flowers and fruit, all nice and sharp! Far better than most shots on the internet.
7 months agoIf nothing else, we're going to have a few days rest. We're monitoring the QLD traffic alerts website which should help us decide when to have another go.

7 months agoWow, That’s unfortunate. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has flood information. The Flood warning for the Condamine Balonne should tell the flood levels at Dirranbandi. Good luck!

We crossed into Queensland yesterday but will be heading back to NSW today due to the flooding in this area. Will return to Hebel in the middle of the week to pick up where we left off.
7 months agoHi Jean-Marc and Leigh, it looks as if you’ll cross the Qld border a few days ahead of us, and further west. A place called Texas is where we will cross in two days.
7 months agoEnjoy the Ridge - far less touristy than Coober Pedy, and a lovely time of year. I'd recommend an evening in the baths. Ian
7 months agoNames like this are one of the things I loved about Australia. It reminds me of Break-Me-Neck Hill and Bust-Me-Gall Hill in Tasmania, which must have fine stories behind them too.
7 months agoHi Ian. We loved the Warrumbungles. A highlight for us so far. Our plan is to head up to Lightning Ridge before turning towards the coast again
7 months agoDear Jean-Marc and Leigh, pleased that you overcame the stumbling blocks and found your way to the Bungles and Galah, with Coonamble in sight. I'll be up that way in June. We're enjoying your blog. Ian and Cora

We're very likely to tag onto your route and enter Queensland at Texas. Busy recovering in Collarenebri after a series of violent storms yesterday afternoon and last night.
