Sully sur Loire
We had planned to stay for two nights in Orleans but heavy rain on Sunday meant we had another night there as we have plenty of time to get to Paris

We were glad to be back on the bikes today and once again we were in sunshine but now without that pesky head wind. It was down past the Cathedral to the waterfront where there was a lot of activity clearing up all the tents from the activities of the weekend - it was a shame for them that they had rain yesterday but the weather was good on Friday and Saturday and most importantly for the big fireworks display on Saturday night. Getting out of Orleans is pretty easy or would be if it wasn’t for a vital missing sign as you get over the bridge. Once on track it is lovely with a huge park beside the Loire - it is do well set up for all kinds of activities and obviously very well used. We rolled along through it for what must have been more than 5km before being put onto a perfect cycle track along the top of a stop bank. I suppose there was nothing startling to see but I really enjoyed the ease and peace of it as we looked down on the agricultural country around us thinking it really is time they harvested that corn as the rains are coming
Th first town was Jargeau and we stopped. Ken has lately become obsessed by Jeanne d’Arc and it was here that on 11th June 1429 she led an army of 5000 and did something rather nasty to the English. They make good coffee there too. You continue along the stop banks until you reach the bridge leading over the Loire to Chateauneuf sur Loire which is an old river port with the town up on the hill behind - there there is an excellent Marine Museum which we had visited previously. We stopped overlooking the port to eat our lunch
Crossing the river here was for a good reason as you are lead past Saint Benoit with its magnificent Romanesque Abbey dating back as far as the 11th century - we were glad we made the detour. Today we had decided to come to Sully sur Loire it has the first or last Chateau on the Loire (depending on the way you are going). I love that little chateau, it is much smaller than most and rather like the Chateau you move to when you are downsizing Chateaux. The town is a busy little town and awash with flowers
